ADHD Assessments

We provide comprehensive ADHD assessments for children (6+), and adults, helping to identify attention, hyperactivity, and executive functioning challenges.

At SNAPS we provide comprehensive, neuroaffirming ADHD assessments for children (aged 6+), young people, and adults. Our approach recognises ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) as a valid neurodevelopmental difference that influences attention, energy regulation, executive functioning, and self-regulation, rather than simply a behavioural issue. Our aim is to provide clear, respectful, evidence-based assessments that empower individuals to better understand themselves and access the support they deserve.

why choose us?

  • Gold Standard Assessments

We adhere to evidence-based guidelines recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence), UKAAN (UK Adult ADHD Network), the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and international best practice.

  • Comprehensive Evaluation

Our assessments explore not only ADHD symptoms, but also strengths, coping strategies, co-occurring conditions (such as anxiety, autism, or learning needs), and functional impact in daily life.

  • Multidisciplinary Expertise

Our highly trained team includes a variety of specialist clinicians with extensive experience in neurodiversity assessment across the lifespan.

  • Neuroaffirming Values

We recognise ADHD as part of natural human diversity. Our assessments focus on understanding each individual's unique profile, challenges, and strengths.

  • Compassionate Process

We know that seeking an ADHD assessment can feel overwhelming. Our supportive team creates a safe, non-judgemental space where individuals feel heard and validated.

Our Gold Standard ADHD Assessment Process

Our ADHD assessments include multiple components to ensure a thorough, accurate understanding:

Our assessments are comprehensive and informed by NICE guidelines, and align with the gold standard approaches used by services such as the NHS and therefore will not be rejected.

  • A structured interview exploring developmental history, current functioning, educational background, and social/emotional wellbeing.

    • Conners' Rating Scales (parent, teacher, or self-report versions)

    • ACE (ADHD Child Evaluation)

    • DIVA (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in adults)

    • Young DIVA (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in children)

  • Gathering information from multiple sources (e.g., school reports, partners, family members) where appropriate.

  • Optional assessments to explore working memory, processing speed, or learning profiles.

  • Screening for autism, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, or learning difficulties that may overlap with or mimic ADHD features.

  • School observation (where appropriate)

Signs of ADHD in Children

While presentations can vary greatly, signs of ADHD in children may include:

Forgetfulness, losing items, or being disorganised

Frequent difficulty sustaining attention or following instructions

High levels of activity or restlessness (often "on the go")

Difficulty with time management, planning, and organisation

Impulsivity (difficulty waiting, blurting out answers, interrupting)

Emotional sensitivity or frustration intolerance

Many adults with ADHD were never identified in childhood, particularly those with inattentive presentations. Signs may include:

Signs of ADHD in adults

Emotional dysregulation and difficulty managing frustration

Problems with time blindness (losing track of time)

Chronic difficulties with focus, concentration, and task completion

Restlessness or an internal sense of being "always on the go”

Impulsive decision-making or difficulties with long-term planning

Forgetfulness, frequent lateness, or disorganisation

Periods of hyperfocus on highly stimulating or interesting tasks

Co-occurring anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem from years of undiagnosed struggles

A Neuroaffirming Approach

We view ADHD as part of natural neurodiversity. Our goal is not simply to provide a label but to offer clarity, understanding, and tailored recommendations that help individuals thrive in work, education, relationships, and daily life. Whether the outcome leads to self-acceptance, adjustments, coaching, therapy, or (if appropriate) medication options, we are committed to respectful, person-centred care.
