Our Neurodiversity Assessment Process

At SNAPS, we provide high-quality, NICE-guideline-compliant assessments for autism, ADHD, or both. Our process is collaborative, thorough, and adapted to suit each person’s age, communication style, and cognitive profile.

We assess children, young people, and adults. All assessments are carried out by experienced clinicians with specialist training in neurodevelopment conditions.

1. Referral & Screening

Once we receive your referral (either self-referral or from a professional), we’ll review the information provided to ensure we are the right service to meet your needs.

You may be asked to complete an initial screening questionnaire and provide relevant reports (e.g. school reports, previous assessments, EHCPs, etc.) to help us understand your concerns and plan the assessment.

2. Initial Consultation

You will be invited to attend an initial consultation with one of our clinicians. This is an opportunity to:

  • Explore your current concerns and background

  • Clarify the assessment aims

  • Answer any questions about the process

  • Decide whether a full assessment is appropriate and what it will involve

For children and young people, this usually includes parents/carers and may involve liaison with school or other professionals.

3. Comprehensive Assessment

Depending on the referral question, the assessment may include the following components:

Autism Assessment

  • Developmental interview (e.g. ADI-R or adapted approach) with a parent/carer or informant

  • Direct assessment of the individual using tools such as the ADOS-2, play-based tasks, or observational tools

  • Cognitive screening (if relevant)

  • Review of reports from school, work or other professionals

  • Use of validated questionnaires (e.g. SCQ, SRS, AQ)

ADHD Assessment

  • Detailed history of attention, impulsivity and hyperactivity symptoms across settings

  • Standardised questionnaires (e.g. SNAP-IV, Conners-4)

  • QbCheck*

  • Cognitive profile screening (e.g. processing speed, working memory)

  • Information from school or workplace where possible

*QbCheck is a computer-based test that helps measure key symptoms of ADHD — specifically attention, impulsivity, and activity levels.

It’s a scientifically validated tool that compares an individual’s performance to people of the same age and gender, providing objective data to support the diagnostic process.

At SNAPS, QbCheck is included in all ADHD assessments as part of our commitment to thorough, evidence-based evaluation. It complements clinical interviews and questionnaires, helping us build a clearer picture of how ADHD may be affecting day-to-day functioning.

The test is non-invasive, takes about 25-30 minutes, and is suitable for both children and adults.

4. Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Discussion

Your assessment will be reviewed by our clinical team to ensure that all information has been considered and interpreted in line with diagnostic criteria (DSM-5 or ICD-11).

This step ensures a fair, balanced and evidence-based formulation of your profile and needs.

5. Feedback & Report

You will receive a comprehensive feedback session, either in person or via video call, where we will:

  • Share the outcome of the assessment

  • Explain the findings clearly and compassionately

  • Discuss next steps, support options, and reasonable adjustments

You will also receive a detailed written report, which can be shared with relevant professionals (e.g. school, employer, GP).

6. Post-Diagnostic Support (Optional)

Following diagnosis, we can provide:

  • Tailored post-diagnostic sessions to help make sense of the findings

  • Parent/carer support

  • Therapeutic input (e.g. CBT, DBT, EMDR)

  • ADHD medication pathway (for those who wish to explore this)

  • Autism/ADHD coaching
