Psychological Therapy
At SNAPS, we use a range of evidence-based therapies tailored to each person’s needs. Below are some of the main approaches we offer, each of which can support individuals in different ways depending on their goals and experiences.
-
CBT is a widely used and effective therapy that helps people understand the link between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It focuses on identifying unhelpful patterns and learning practical strategies to change them.
CBT may be helpful for:
Anxiety and panic
Low mood or depression
OCD
Social anxiety
Phobias
Low self-esteem
CBT is structured, goal-focused, and can be adapted for children, young people, and adults.
-
DBT is a therapy designed to help individuals manage intense emotions and improve their relationships. It combines strategies from CBT with mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches.
DBT focuses on four key areas:
Emotion regulation
Distress tolerance
Mindfulness
Interpersonal effectiveness
At SNAPS, we may draw on full DBT protocols or integrate DBT-informed strategies into individual work, particularly for those with difficulties managing emotions or experiencing behaviours such as self-harm.
-
EMDR is a powerful therapy used to help people recover from distressing experiences, trauma, or ongoing emotional difficulties. It involves guided eye movements (or other forms of bilateral stimulation) to help the brain process memories that are “stuck.”
EMDR may be helpful for:
PTSD or trauma
Anxiety or panic
Phobias
Difficult childhood experiences
Self-esteem linked to past events
It is suitable for both children and adults and can be tailored to neurodivergent clients.
-
Mindfulness helps individuals develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and body sensations in the present moment — without judgment. It can reduce stress, support emotional regulation, and promote a sense of calm and clarity.
These practices can be especially beneficial for clients experiencing anxiety, burnout, or sensory overload.
-
Receiving a diagnosis — whether of autism, ADHD, or both — can bring a sense of relief, validation, and sometimes more questions than answers. At SNAPS, we offer compassionate, tailored post-diagnostic support to help individuals and families make sense of what the diagnosis means and what comes next.
Post-diagnostic sessions can support with:
Understanding the diagnosis and how it affects everyday life
Exploring strengths and areas of challenge
Identifying needs and planning reasonable adjustments
Setting goals for home, school, work or relationships
Supporting emotional wellbeing and self-identity
This support can be offered to individuals, parents/carers, or both, and is adapted for different ages and neurotypes.
-
Coaching offers practical, goal-focused support to help neurodivergent individuals navigate everyday life more confidently. It is not therapy — but it can complement therapeutic work or stand alone as a space for exploring what works best for you.
ADHD Coaching
Helps individuals develop strategies for managing:
Time management and organisation
Motivation and task initiation
Focus and attention
Emotional regulation
Routines and daily structure
Autism Coaching
Supports individuals in areas such as:
Navigating social or work environments
Energy management and avoiding burnout
Understanding and communicating needs
Developing self-advocacy and boundaries
Building routines that honour sensory and cognitive preferences
Coaching is strengths-based, collaborative, and tailored to individual goals and preferences.
-
For some individuals with ADHD, medication can be a helpful part of managing symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. At SNAPS, we offer access to prescribing and monitoring of ADHD medication as part of a comprehensive care package.
We offer:
ADHD assessments and post-diagnosis reviews
Shared decision-making about medication options
Initiation and titration of stimulant and non-stimulant medication
Ongoing monitoring and support
Integration with psychological or coaching input (if helpful)
Our approach is collaborative and person-centred — we’ll work with you (or your child) to find out what works best, at a pace that feels right.
